Vinas de Oro Pisco Quebranta
Pisco Quebranta | 750mL | 41% ABV (82 proof) | Peru — Viñas de Oro Pisco Quebranta is the classic "puro" — 100% Quebranta, the non-aromatic grape that is the traditional backbone of the Pisco Sour — from Bodegas Viñas de Oro in El Carmen, Chincha, Ica Valley, Peru. Quebranta grapes harvested February–April are pressed on an Italian grape press, fermented 7–15 days on natural yeast in steel tanks, single-distilled in a copper alembic still, and rested ~10–12 months in stainless steel. Bottled at 41% ABV under Peru's Denomination of Origin. Available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA.
Quebranta is to pisco what the workhorse grapes are to Cognac: not the showiest, but the foundation everything is built on. Its non-aromatic profile — apple, green mango, dried fruit, toasted almond, a touch of chocolate — is exactly what makes the Pisco Sour sing, and Viñas de Oro's medal record (Gold at ExpoPisco 2008 among many) marks it as one of Ica's benchmark puros. A must for any serious pisco shelf.
Tasting notes
