Two James Spirits Doctor Bird Coco Atoll Coconut Rum
Two James Spirits Doctor Bird Coco Atoll Coconut Rum is a traditional pot still coconut rum from Two James Spirits of Detroit — an expansion of the distillery's award-winning Doctor Bird Jamaican Rum that changes the conversation about what coconut rum can be. It starts with the same high-ester pot still distillate from Worthy Park in Jamaica that made the original Doctor Bird a bartender favorite, infuses it with natural coconut, finishes it in Moscatel sherry casks, and bottles it at a full 45% ABV (90 proof) in a 750mL bottle. This is not a sugar-soaked rum liqueur: it is a rich, funky Jamaican pot still rum with a judicious addition of natural coconut, named for the coco atoll and for Jamaica's national bird, the doctor bird (Trochilus polytmus) on its label. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The Coconut Rum for People Who Actually Like Rum
Most coconut rum is too sweet, too artificial and too far removed from actual rum. Coco Atoll keeps the coconut in its place: the high-ester Worthy Park funk leads, the natural coconut rounds it out, and the Moscatel cask finish adds a soft, winey depth. Two James, Detroit's first distillery since Prohibition, built Doctor Bird by importing Jamaican rums and blending and finishing them in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood — Coco Atoll is the line's tropical detour. Tasting Notes
Ripe banana, toasted coconut and caramelized sugar on the nose; lush butterscotch, mango and tropical fruit on the palate, balanced by creamy coconut sweetness, funky Jamaican rum character and subtle oak warmth; a smooth, lingering, gently warming finish. The coconut never overwhelms the funk — it enhances it.
How to Enjoy
Build a Pina Colada with this and never go back to anything else — or sip it over a single large ice cube, or shake it into a Tropical Sour with fresh lime. More cocktail-ready bottles live across our spirits shelves and the rare and top shelf collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Coco Atoll a liqueur?
No. It is a full-strength pot still rum — 45% ABV (90 proof) — infused with natural coconut and finished in Moscatel sherry casks, not a sweetened low-proof liqueur.
Where does the rum come from?
The base is high-ester pot still rum distilled at Worthy Park in Jamaica, shipped to Two James Spirits in Detroit, where it is blended, infused with natural coconut and finished in Moscatel casks.
How does it differ from the original Doctor Bird?
The original Doctor Bird is the unflavored Moscatel-finished Jamaican rum at 50% ABV. Coco Atoll adds natural coconut and comes in at 45% ABV — same funk, with a tropical coconut layer on top.
