The Rums of Mexico 'Un Toquecito' Rum
The Rums of Mexico 'Un Toquecito' Rum is a lightly aged, high-ester molasses rum from PM Spirits' Rums of Mexico project, made by first-generation distillers Pedro Andrés and Jorge Nájera at their small Satvrnal distillery in Zapopan, Jalisco, and bottled at 51.1% ABV in a 700mL bottle. It is a three-barrel blend of pot still rum made with dunder and young muck: two barrels spent two years in ex-bourbon casks followed by 11 months resting in open-top demijohns, while a third barrel, distilled with young muck, spent five months in an American oak ex-rum cask. The name means “a little touch” — a nod to that brief time in oak. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Satvrnal's High-Ester Experiment, Kissed by Oak
Andrés and Nájera are the experimental wing of the Rums of Mexico project: at Satvrnal, on the outskirts of Guadalajara, they make gin, absinthe and other spirits alongside small batches of rum on a custom hybrid pot and column still. Their earlier Melaza con Muck took its cues from the high-ester rums of the Caribbean; Un Toquecito is its lightly aged successor, keeping the dunder-and-muck character but rounding it with a short rest in oak and glass. It stands apart from the cane-juice bottlings that anchor our rum shelf — compare it with the Oaxacan cane spirit in The Rums of Mexico Caña Criolla — and it is one of the most distinctive Mexican bottlings across our spirits shelves.
Tasting Notes
Look for the Satvrnal high-ester signature up front: ripe tropical fruit and warm, funky depth from the dunder-and-muck ferment, with the brief oak rest adding a vanilla-tinged molasses richness without sanding off the edges. It finishes long and assertive at its full 51.1% strength.
How to Enjoy
Sip it neat to follow the ester funk, or put it to work in a daiquiri, where a high-ester rum belongs. Pair it with its Veracruz and Oaxaca siblings from our gift sets for a full tour of Mexican cane spirits.
