The Rums of Mexico Cana Dura Rum
The Rums of Mexico Caña Dura Rum is a traditional Mexican sugarcane juice rum from PM Spirits’ Rums of Mexico project, made by fourth-generation aguardientero Marcos López in Cosautlán de Carvajal, Veracruz, from the pale yellow-green Caña Dura cane variety, bottled at 46.7% ABV in a 700mL bottle with nothing added after distillation. One Farmer, One Cane Variety
The Rums of Mexico bottles the traditional cane spirits of Mexico that locals call aguardiente, cañita or simply ron, naming the farmer, the village, the cane and the still on every release. Caña Dura, prized for its resilience, is the most common cane around Cosautlán de Carvajal, and López — who also cultivates coffee, limes and citrus honey — shows what it can do in a crisp, fruity, refreshing spirit. Tasted alongside his Caña Cristalina, it is a lesson in how cane variety shapes a rum. Explore more rum and agricole-style bottlings across our spirits shelves.
Tasting Notes
Per the producer’s tech sheet: a salty, savory nose of tapenade, cucumber, watermelon, capers and lime. The palate brings nectarine skin, golden apples, honey, oat bran and wet rocks, with a saline edge and a medium-length earthy finish.
How to Enjoy
Made for a Daiquiri or a Ti’ Punch, and crisp enough to sip neat with a chill. Pair it with its Oaxacan sibling in our gift sets for a side-by-side Mexican cane tasting.
