40% ABV (80 proof) | 700mL | Blanco tequila, unaged — Tequila Carrera Blanco Tahona is the first expression of Carrera's new tahona line: 100% Blue Weber agave, slow-cooked and crushed the old way under a volcanic-stone tahona wheel at Casa Tequilera Dinastía Arandina (Casa Camarena) in Arandas, in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco. The stone crush is slower and gentler than modern roller mills, preserving the agave's natural sweetness and mineral character. Unaged, bottled as a pure, crisp blanco under Maestro Tequilero Mauricio Camarena. Available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA.

It drinks like highland agave should: elegant cooked agave and honey with fruity, citrus tones on the nose; bright and crisp on the palate with sweet agave, white pepper, and a light mineral edge; and a smooth, clean finish with lingering agave sweetness (Old Town Tequila, Keg N Bottle). Among blanco tequilas, the tahona method sets it apart — one of the few blancos still stone-crushed. Sip neat to taste the method, or mix a top-shelf margarita or paloma.

Tasting notes

Nose: cooked agave, honey, citrus zest, light herbal notes, white pepper (retailer notes). Palate: bright and crisp; sweet cooked agave, pepper, earthy and mineral tones. Finish: smooth, clean, refreshing; lingering agave sweetness, long dry elegant close.
