Stranahan's Mountain Angel 12 Year Old Colorado Single Malt Whiskey Aged in Port Wine Casks
Stranahan's Mountain Angel 12 Year Old Colorado Single Malt Whiskey Aged in Port Wine Casks is a 47.3% ABV (94.6 proof), 750mL Colorado single malt made from 100% malted barley with Rocky Mountain water — aged 12 years in new, charred American oak barrels and finished in port wine casks from Portugal. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
Mountain Angel is the ultra-premium aged series from Stranahan's, Denver's pioneering whiskey distillery, founded in 2004 as Colorado's first legal distillery since Prohibition. Denver's mile-high air is thirsty: some of these barrels lost over 80% of their contents to angel's share across the twelve years, concentrating what remained. This January 2026 limited release extends the series that began with the Mountain Angel 10 Year, the first 10 Year Old Straight American Single Malt Whiskey.
Tasting profile (brand notes): caramelised nectarine, fig paste and lavender on the nose; blueberry compote, ginger lemon tart, raspberry cheesecake and blackberry strudel on the palate; a juicy vanilla wafer finish with mature oak and maduro cigar wrapper. Browse the Stranahan's brand collection, more American whiskey, and the full whiskey collection at Del Mesa Liquor.
Serving note: pour neat in a Glencairn and give the port finish a minute to open; a few drops of water lift the stone fruit.
