Sonajero is crafted by the Dominguez Mercado family in Zapotlan El Grande, a town near Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. This ancestral ponche is produced between August and October to commemorate the festivities dedicated to the town's patron saint, Saint Joseph. Locally cultivated, organically farmed pomegranates from the Zapotlan Valley are macerated in high-quality mezcal from the El Llano en Llamas area of southern Jalisco, where some of the finest agave spirits in Mexico are made. The base spirit uses local varietals of Agave angustifolia and is of the absolute highest quality.
