Royal Standard Dry Rum
Royal Standard Dry Rum is a bartender's blending project in a bottle: unaged Trinidad rum, 3-year-old Barbados rum, and light pot-still Jamaican rum, blended and bottled in London by the E&A Scheer rum house at 42% ABV. Built with San Francisco bar ABV and importer Pacific Edge, it is a dry, no-added-sugar white rum designed for cocktails — the rum character cuts through lime and sugar in a daiquiri. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

A Cocktail Rum, by Design
Royal Standard was not made to sip — it was made to mix. Conceived with Todd Smith of San Francisco's acclaimed bar ABV and the Pacific Edge team, the blend leans on three pillars: unaged Trinidad rum for a clean, lightly grassy base; 3-year-old Barbados rum for smoothness; and light pot-still Jamaican rum for the funk. E&A Scheer — the Dutch rum blending house — marries and bottles it in London. No added sugar, dry by design: K&L buyer David Driscoll calls it "inexpensive, professionally-blended, cocktail-oriented rum," noting "the rum character cuts through the lime and the sugar when I make a Daiquiri."
Tasting Notes
Retailer notes: dry and balanced — fruity with a pleasant touch of Jamaican funk, the smoothness of aged Bajan rum, and a clean, slightly grassy Trinidad finish; light vanilla, citrus, and coconut on the nose.
How to Enjoy
Daiquiris and mojitos first — that is what it was built for. It also upgrades any white rum cocktail where the rum needs to stand up: try it in a Hemingway daiquiri or a rum Collins.
