Ron Zacapa Centenario 50th Anniversary Edition Rum is the limited-edition release created for Zacapa's 50th anniversary — a North America–exclusive bottling from Master Blender Lorena Vásquez. It brings together rums aged 8 to 24 years through Zacapa's Sistema Solera, then gives the blend a final maturation in American white oak barrels specially charred with Guatemalan cacao and Cobán chili peels. Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 750mL bottle dressed with a reimagined, colorful handwoven petate band.

A Golden Anniversary, Finished with Cacao and Chili

Founded in 1976, Ron Zacapa is crafted in Guatemala from virgin sugar cane honey and aged high in the mountains — more than 2,300 meters above sea level — where the thin air slows the interaction between spirit and wood. The Sistema Solera moves the rum through casks that previously held American whiskeys, sherry wines and Pedro Ximénez wines, building the deep, rounded character the house is known for in bottlings like the Ron Zacapa 23 Sistema Solera Rum and the Ron Zacapa XO Rum.

For the 50th Anniversary Edition, Vásquez drew on ancient Guatemalan ceremonial traditions, where cacao and chili were combined in drinks made for celebration. The finished blend rests in barrels charred with cacao skins and Cobán chile peels, a first for the house, and the bottle arrives in a commemorative canister with the signature petate band — handwoven by Guatemalan artisans — redesigned in vibrant anniversary colors.

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with vanilla and caramelized fruit. On the palate, wood and toffee meet aromatic spice, layered with roasted cacao and a delicate warmth from the Cobán chili — present as glow rather than heat. The texture is smooth and rounded, finishing long with toasted notes and gentle warm spice.

How to Enjoy

Sip it neat or over a single large cube to let the cacao and spice unfold. It is also the base of the GuateMai Tai, the anniversary's signature serve built with orange liqueur, orgeat (almond syrup), fresh lime juice and aromatic bitters. Collectors of Guatemalan rum will want to compare it alongside the darker, sherry-driven Ron Zacapa Edicion Negra Rum and the rest of our rum collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the 50th Anniversary Edition different from Zacapa 23?
Zacapa 23 is the core solera blend. The 50th Anniversary Edition starts from rums aged 8 to 24 years and adds a finish Zacapa has never used before: American oak barrels charred with Guatemalan cacao and Cobán chili peels, giving it distinct roasted cacao and warm spice notes.

Is this a limited edition?
Yes. It is a limited-edition, North America–exclusive release created for Zacapa's 50th anniversary in 2026, presented in a commemorative canister.

Is the rum spicy?
No — the Cobán chili contributes a delicate, warming spice rather than chili heat. Think roasted cacao, toffee and a gentle glow on the finish.

What is the petate band on the bottle?
The band is handwoven from palm leaf by Guatemalan artisans, a Zacapa signature since the original 1976 bottling. For the 50th anniversary it has been reimagined in a colorful commemorative design.
