Raising Glasses Perennia Caroni 27 Year Old Single Cask Rum 1997 is a single cask of Caroni rum bottled by Raising Glasses, the American independent bottler run by husband-and-wife team Lorri and John — and, in the bottler's own words, the first Caroni release by an American independent bottler. Caroni, the Trinidad distillery that quietly produced its last drops in 2002 before being dismantled, has become the most sought-after lost distillery in rum, and its finite remaining stock surfaces almost entirely through European bottlers. This cask was distilled from molasses on Caroni's column still in 1997, five years before the shutdown, and spent 27 years in wood before bottling at 58% ABV (116 proof), unsweetened at zero grams per litre of sugar, with no coloring or additives, in a 375mL bottle — a run of just 378 bottles, released in collaboration with No Imperialism. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The Lost Distillery, Bottled by an American Independent

Raising Glasses calls Caroni its gateway to the rum world — and its hardest get in the United States. Perennia, named for what endures, pairs the bottler's cask selection with the No Imperialism collaboration credited on the label, and lands a 27-year-old Caroni in the house's 375mL format, the most accessible way this distillery ever reaches a shelf. Collectors hunting closed-distillery rum will find more single casks in our rum collection and on the rare and top shelf shelves.

Tasting Notes

Community tastings logged on RumX, where Perennia averages 9.3 out of 10, describe the signature Caroni profile: petrol, plastic and caramel on the nose, then milk chocolate, charred wood, barrel character and berries on the palate — a sipping rum, not a mixer.

How to Enjoy

Pour it neat in a small glass and give it time; a few drops of water tease out the chocolate and berry side of the cask. This is a contemplative pour to set beside the other aged treasures in our spirits range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Caroni rum so collectible?
The Caroni distillery in Trinidad closed in 2002 and was dismantled, so its stock is finite — every cask bottled since is one that can never be replaced, and most releases come from European independent bottlers.

How old is Perennia and how strong is it?
Distilled in 1997 and aged 27 years, bottled at 58% ABV (116 proof) in a 375mL bottle, unsweetened with zero grams per litre of sugar and no coloring or additives.

How many bottles were made?
378 bottles from the single cask, bottled by Raising Glasses in collaboration with No Imperialism.

Secure Raising Glasses Perennia at Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA — 27 years of Caroni, and when these 378 bottles are gone, so is the cask.
