Thai rum is one of the category's best-kept secrets, and Kinnara is its calling card: a single cask of molasses rum, distilled in Thailand, aged five years in the tropical heat there and four more in the United Kingdom, and bottled by Raising Glasses at a cask-strength 61.8% ABV. Nine years, one cask, 180 bottles in a 375mL format that makes collecting serious single casks genuinely affordable. It is one of the most distinctive bottles in our rum collection at any price.

  • ABV: 61.8% (123.6 proof) · Size: 375mL

The Story

In Buddhist and Hindu mythology the Kinnara is a celestial musician, half man and half bird — a fitting emblem for a rum that sings. Artist Razigla's label carries the legend, and Raising Glasses donates 5% of profits to Thailand's Love Foundation. Kinnara is one of a pair of Thai casks the bottler fell for: this, the more floral and resonant of the two, is nicknamed the "female" cask beside its oakier sibling. If Thai rum is new to you, the Madeira-cask Raising Glasses Ethereal 3 Year Old Madeira Rum 2020 shows the same adventurous sourcing in another key.

Tasting Notes

Lush and resonant: tropical flowers, ripe mango and banana over honeyed oak, with a thread of spice from the long dual-climate aging. At 61.8% the palate is full and warm, finishing on floral sweetness and polished wood.

How to Enjoy

Neat in a small glass, where the aromatics have room to bloom; a splash of water turns the florals up further. The 375mL format also makes it a brilliant gift for the rum explorer — pair it with the Raising Glasses The Whistler 14 Year Old Rum for a world-rum tasting night.
