The Elegance of Karwinskii
Madrecuishe is one of the most distinctive members of the Karwinskii family. Harvested after approximately 12 years of maturation in San Agustin Amatengo, this wild-looking agave develops its complexity through slow growth in mineral-rich soils, warm sunny days, cool mountain nights and seasonal rains — conditions that concentrate the plant's sugars and aromatic compounds. Luis Juarez roasts the agave in a conical earthen oven with guamuchil and mesquite, mills it by tahona, ferments naturally with spring water, and distills in a traditional refrescadera copper still, preserving the terroir of Amatengo in every bottle. Fans of single-village Karwinskii bottlings should also see the Palenqueros Valente Garcia Madrecuishe Mezcal.
Tasting Notes
Unlike Espadin, Madrecuishe offers a naturally more refined and complex profile: vibrant minerality, herbal freshness and floral aromatics, with distinctive lactic and fermented notes carried through the refrescadera distillation. Fresh, deep and elegant from the first sip to the finish.
How to Enjoy
Sip neat from a copita or small glass at room temperature, with still water alongside to open up the aromatics. It also makes a remarkable gift for agave collectors — see our Holiday Gift Guide for more rare bottlings, or explore the rare and top shelf collection.
