The Story
This is the flagship release of 1787 Provenance, the Middleburg Barrel Company brand founded in 2025 by Viyas Sundaram at Provenance Estate in Middleburg, Virginia. Principal Whiskeymaker Jay West built his reputation reviewing thousands of whiskeys as the critic t8ke at Whiskey Raiders; at Provenance he picks the barrels instead of scoring them. The sourced Kentucky casks rest in newly built rickhouses on the 121-acre estate, and when a barrel stands on its own, it is released as a single barrel statement like this one. The 7 Year earned a Master Medal at the 2024 American Whiskey Masters before the brand even launched. Tasting Notes
Toasted walnut, burnt caramel, molasses, charred oak, dark brown sugar and chocolate on the nose. The palate runs rich and vivid, layering brown sugar, toffee, nougat and pecan pie with a dash of cinnamon, before a long finish of barrel char, molasses, aged leather and drying oak tannins.
