Orphan Barrel x Avengers Doomsday Latverian Cask 20 Year Old Light Whiskey is a once-only release from Diageo's Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co., inspired by Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Doomsday" and named for Latveria, the fictional nation ruled by Doctor Doom. It is the first American Light Whiskey ever released under the Orphan Barrel name: distilled in Indiana from a predominantly corn mashbill, it matured for a minimum of 20 years — primarily in Kentucky, with other barrels aged in Indiana — mainly in previously used bourbon and rye barrels, and is bottled at 92 proof (46% ABV) in a 750mL bottle. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

A Whiskey Hidden for Twenty Years

Orphan Barrel exists to rescue remarkable barrels that have been aging quietly on their own, and Latverian Cask is exactly that kind of find: a finite collection of light whiskey barrels that rested for more than two decades before Diageo's Master Blender for U.S. Whiskey, Andrew Mackay, brought them forward. Aging in used, uncharred oak let the liquid build depth and richness while keeping the softer character that defines light whiskey — a category distilled at higher proof than bourbon and matured in used or uncharred barrels. The release is tied to "Avengers: Doomsday," in theaters December 18, 2026, and the bottle carries an original label illustration by Marvel artist Rod Reis; in an additional twist, one in six bottles features a rarer holographic label treatment. Tasting Notes

Diageo describes Latverian Cask as opening with caramel and sweet vanilla on the nose, followed by honey, butterscotch, orange peel and oak on the palate, and a warm finish of creamy vanilla and dried fruit. Despite twenty years in oak, the whiskey stays mellow and soft — the depth of a very old American whiskey without the tannic grip that new charred oak would have imposed.

How to Enjoy

Diageo recommends it neat or with one small ice cube, allowing the liquid to open up slowly as the ice melts. It is a collector's pour first — a one-time bottling that cannot be recreated once the barrels are gone — and a striking centerpiece alongside the other long-aged releases in our American whiskey selection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is light whiskey?
Light whiskey is an American whiskey category distilled at a higher proof than bourbon (above 160 and below 190 proof) and aged in used or uncharred new oak containers. The used oak produces a softer, more mellow profile than bourbon's new charred barrels, even over very long aging.

Why is it called Latverian Cask?
The name comes from Latveria, the fictional Eastern European nation ruled by Doctor Doom in Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Doomsday." The label illustration is an original work by Marvel artist Rod Reis, and one in six bottles carries a holographic version of the label.

Where was Latverian Cask made?
It was distilled in Indiana from a predominantly corn mashbill, matured primarily in Kentucky (with some barrels in Indiana) for a minimum of 20 years, and bottled by OB Spirits Co. in Shively, Kentucky.

Is this a limited release?
Yes — Diageo describes it as a once-only offering drawn from a finite collection of aged barrels, bottled in strictly limited quantities beginning November 1, 2026. When it is gone, it cannot be recreated.

How should I drink a 20 year old light whiskey?
Neat, or with one small ice cube as Diageo suggests — the 92 proof bottling strength is deliberately approachable, so the caramel, honey and dried-fruit character shows without needing water.
