A Quarter Century from a Lost Distillery

Port Dundas was once Scotland's largest distillery — a Glasgow grain giant running continuous column stills — until it closed in 2010 and was demolished the year after. What remains are orphaned casks, and Diageo's Orphan Barrel Project exists to bottle them. Muckety-Muck 25 follows the 2020 24-year-old: a corn-predominant single grain, 25 years in ex-bourbon wood, named for the prized pig that once lived on the distillery's pig farm — the label comes in six variants, the pig wearing a different colored sash on each. Announced January 2022 at an SRP of $250, it drew a B+ from Drinkhacker and a 93 expert rating from Frootbat.

Tasting Notes

Mature grain whisky character: vanilla custard, toasted cereal, and honey over soft oak. The long bourbon-cask maturation keeps it round and sweet, with gentle spice and dried fruit at the edges.

How to Enjoy

Neat — 25-year-old grain whisky this rare isn't for mixing. A Scotch whisky glass and twenty quiet minutes is the whole ritual.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is single grain Scotch?
Whisky distilled at a single distillery from grains other than malted barley (here, corn-predominant) in continuous column stills — lighter and sweeter than single malt, and at 25 years, deeply matured.

Why is it called Muckety-Muck?
For the prized pig that lived at Port Dundas Distillery's pig farm — the label features the pig in six sash-color variants.

Is Port Dundas still operating?
No — it closed in 2010 and was demolished in 2011, which is why remaining stocks like this are finite.
