Aged a minimum of three decades in hogsheads and American oak barrels, it is bottled at cask strength and represents what Chivas Brothers (Pernod Ricard) calls the "ultimate" expression of Longmorn.
Longmorn — founded 1894 by John Duff — is the blender's darling of Speyside: an unpeated malt prized for its rich, fruit-forward depth and texture, the kind of whisky that elevates great blends and, given thirty years, needs no blending at all. Cask master Kevin Balmforth framed the 30-year-old as drawing "on the vast knowledge, dedication and craftsmanship of Longmorn cask experts, past and present." The distillery's notes from the launch: nose of rich caramel, set honey, homemade raspberry jam, dark cherries, ripe plums, toasted oak, and freshly ground nutmeg; palate of treacle cake, roasted walnuts, and dark fudge complemented by spiced red apples, dried apricots, and cinnamon spice.
