The Duckhorns' Pinot Noir Quest

Dan and Margaret Duckhorn built their name on Napa Merlot — then spent over a decade hunting for Pinot Noir sites worthy of the same stature. They landed in Anderson Valley, one of California's coolest AVAs, where marine fog, long mild days, and dramatic day-night swings preserve the acidity Pinot needs. Goldeneye — named for the migratory duck whose path crosses the valley — has made Anderson Valley Pinot its sole pursuit since 1996. The 2021 comes from a dry winter and mild summer the winery calls "another stellar vintage": estate fruit from four vineyards, 16 months in French oak. Tasting Notes

Ripe raspberry, black cherry, blackberry, and Bing cherry over pennyroyal, clove, and sweet baking spice, with leather and red tea underneath — supple tannins, bright acidity, medium body.

How to Enjoy

Decant 30 minutes or open an hour before serving at cellar temperature (~60°F). Drink now through 2028 per Wine Spectator — or hold a few years; the structure is there.
