El Tesoro Extra Anejo Tequila
El Tesoro Extra Añejo Tequila is a 750mL ultra-aged expression at 40% ABV (80 proof), patiently rested four to five years in ex-bourbon barrels at La Alteña distillery in the Highlands of Jalisco.
This is tequila made the old way. Agave is slow-roasted in traditional stone ovens, crushed with a volcanic-stone tahona wheel, and double-distilled in copper pot stills — methods the Camarena family has used for three generations. The extra añejo spends four to five years in American ex-bourbon oak, a process begun years ago by the late Don Felipe J. Camarena Orozco and carried on by Master Distiller Carlos Camarena. The result is a sipping tequila with the depth of a fine cognac. Explore premium tequila: https://www.delmesaliquor.com/collections/tequila
Tasting notes: Nose: Cooked agave, dried fruit, vanilla, toasted oak and baking spice. Palate: Rich and layered — caramel, dark chocolate, dried fig, cinnamon and warm oak. Finish: Long and elegant with lingering agave sweetness and spice.
Why buy it here: Extra añejos of this caliber — tahona-crushed, estate-distilled, genuinely aged 4–5 years — rarely sit at this price. Del Mesa Liquor ships it fast in secure packaging.
How to enjoy: Neat in a snifter or copita, at room temperature, exactly like a fine cognac. No lime required — this one deserves the spotlight.
FAQ — How long is El Tesoro Extra Añejo aged?
Four to five years in ex-bourbon barrels — well beyond the three-year minimum for the extra añejo category.
FAQ — What is tahona crushing?
A traditional method using a giant volcanic-stone wheel to crush roasted agave, which preserves more of the agave's natural character than modern roller mills.
FAQ — How is this different from El Tesoro Paradiso?
Paradiso is finished in French oak cognac casks; this Extra Añejo is aged entirely in American ex-bourbon barrels for a different, oak-forward profile.
