Clase Azul Guerrero Mezcal Joven Limited Edition
Clase Azul Guerrero Mezcal Joven Limited Edition is a 42% ABV (84 proof), 750mL joven mezcal from 100% papalote agave (Agave cupreata), a variety that grows only wild in the mountains of Guerrero, Mexico, and can take up to 15 years to mature. The agave is cooked three to four days in a pit oven with volcanic rock and Guamuchil firewood, then distilled with firewood in a copper alembic still. Crystal clear with light straw highlights and a full body, it arrives in Clase Azul's hand-crafted jade-green ceramic decanter. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Guerrero, Decanted
Clase Azul built this expression to put Guerrero — one of Mexico's least-explored mezcal states — on the map. The papalote agave grows wild in its mountain ranges, where coastal air meets green forest, and the women of Guerrero anchor the release: the decanter is a tribute to their ancestral wisdom and warrior spirit, its jade color standing for eternity, its four-petalled flowers for the Fifth Sun, and its Olinala-lacquered cap — shaped as a jicara and crowned with a hummingbird, messenger of the gods — made by Guerrero artisans. Tasting Notes
Nose: Grapefruit skin, fresh wood, rosemary and peanut oil, with hints of butter and daisy flowers. Palate: Fresh wood, seaweed, lemon juice and pepper, with light tobacco. Finish: Full-bodied and lingering.
How to Enjoy
Sip neat from a jicara or copita to keep the papalote's green, coastal character intact. The brand's own pairings run to serrano ham with heirloom tomato and green olive tapenade, steamed fish tacos, and lemon cake with ripe fruit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is papalote agave? Agave cupreata, called papalote in Guerrero — a wild agave that propagates by seed, grows in Guerrero's mountains and can take up to 15 years to mature; it cannot be farmed like blue Weber.
Is Clase Azul Guerrero aged? No — it is a joven (unaged) mezcal; its character comes from the agave, the pit-oven cook and copper distillation, not oak.
Why is the bottle green? The jade-green ceramic decanter symbolizes eternity in ancestral Mexican cultures; its flowers represent the Fifth Sun and the cap uses Guerrero's Olinala lacquer technique.
