This one came out of Bulleit's experimental Whiskey R&D program (led by Phil Gelineau), which set out to push smoke-forward flavor inside a legal straight-bourbon framework — the "Mesquite Smoked Malt" in the name refers to the mash bill ingredient, not the category, and Bulleit states explicitly that this is NOT a flavored whiskey and not a single malt. Official notes: caramelized sugar on the nose with a subtle hit of smoky mesquite; smooth sweet vanilla and rich oak on the palate; a light, lingering barbecue-smoke finish. It is a one-time limited edition released March 2026. Among limited-release bourbons, the mesquite-smoked third of the mash is genuinely unusual — sweet corn, toasted grain, sweet-tea sweetness, vanilla, and a savory edge.
