Two components were blended: a 6-year rye with a 4-year Caribbean rum cask secondary maturation (~69% of the blend) and a 12-year rye with a 4-month rum cask finish (~31%) — a combined ten years in wood (distilled 2013–2015), bottled at full 111.6 proof. The rum-cask finish is the signature move of the house — the flagship rye built the brand on it — but at ten years and cask strength it's a different animal: cloves, lime, wintergreen, and butter-rum sweetness on the nose; rye spice, black pepper, sweet caramel, and candied ginger on the palate; and a long, drying finish of rye bread, tart citrus, and dry wood. The Caribbean rum casks carry residual sugars and tropical fruit that layer over the rye's edges without dulling them. Among finished rye whiskeys, a decade-old, barrel-proof, rum-finished rye is essentially without peer.
