Alambique Serrano Blend #10 Rum — the 'El Estado Dorado' blend — is a cask strength Oaxacan cane rum from Alambique Serrano, the Krassel family's three-generation rum project on the steep hillsides of Santa Maria Tlalixtac in Oaxaca's Canada region, Mexico. It is built from organic Java-varietal cane grown between 2,500 and 3,800 feet, hand-harvested, fermented with wild yeast in pine and steel vats, and distilled on custom column and copper pot stills. Blend #10 marries four components — rums aged in new French oak and finished in ex-red wine casks, an ex-bourbon-aged rum, and a pot still rum rested in new French oak — and is bottled at natural cask strength, 56.7% ABV, with no water, sugar or coloring added, in a 750mL bottle. Just 907 bottles were produced, bottled in June 2025. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

A Running Document of Oaxacan Cane Rum

German immigrant Max Krassel began distilling on a coffee farm here in the 1930s with a handmade still; today his grandsons Rommel, Axel and William run the stills, and Alambique Serrano's numbered blends have become a running document of how the house style evolves — each blend a one-time marriage of casks, never repeated. Blend #10, assembled with Los Angeles bartender Maxwell Reis, is the benchmark California-exclusive edition of the series. Tasting Notes

Fresh cane, orange peel and ripe tropical fruit on the nose with cinnamon and vanilla; a rich, oily palate of honey, dried fruit, black pepper and dry oak spice; and a long finish carrying the grassy, savory agricole edge that runs through the entire Alambique Serrano range.

How to Enjoy

Sip it neat to meet the cask strength head-on, or add a few drops of water to open the tropical fruit and red-wine-cask lift. It also makes a remarkable agricole-style daiquiri — more ideas live on our rare and top shelf shelves.
