Distilled in 1995 in Nova Scotia, Canada — reportedly at Glenora Distillery, North America's first single malt distillery — it matured 30 years in American oak in the cool maritime climate, then finished about a month in Vin Santo barrels, the rare Tuscan dessert wine, sourced via a barrel broker in France. Fewer than four barrels were produced; each bottle is hand-numbered and presented in a wooden display box. WhistlePig calls it the oldest North American single malt ever bottled. Single malt whiskey aged 30 years outside Scotland is vanishingly rare, and a Vin Santo finish is rarer still — head blender Meghan Ireland describes the Tuscan barrels as a "catalyst for complexity." Among North American single malts, nothing older has been bottled.
