Toschi Nocello Walnut Liqueur
Toschi Nocello Walnut Liqueur is a 24% ABV (48 proof), 750mL sweet liqueur from Toschi of Emilia-Romagna, Italy — flavored with both walnuts and hazelnuts and sealed with its signature walnut shell on the cork stopper. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
The Nocello recipe traces back to a medieval medicinal elixir, and its name comes from an Emilia-Romagna tradition: a walnut tree was planted when a daughter was born, and its wood became her nuptial bed when she married — the nuts became "Nocello." Toschi makes it the traditional way: walnuts picked on Midsummer's Day are shelled and soaked in oak casks of neutral alcohol for up to two years, redistilled with the nuts, then sweetened and finished with herbs and spices. It earned a Gold medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2004 and is often compared to Frangelico in taste.
Tasting profile: roasted walnuts and subtle vanilla on the nose; a rich, syrupy palate of walnut and hazelnut layered with vanilla sweetness; a lingering mocha-coffee and chocolate-coated-nut finish with mellow warmth. Serving note: serve cold — neat or over ice, in espresso or coffee, poured over vanilla or chocolate ice cream, or as a digestif after dinner.
Why is there a walnut on the cork? It is a real walnut shell glued to the stopper — Nocello's signature packaging.

What does "Imitation Liqueur" on the label mean? It is a U.S. labeling classification; this is the authentic Toschi product from Italy.
What cocktails can I make with Nocello? Try a White Nocello (5 rum : 3 Nocello : 1 cream, shaken) or a Nocellomother (7 vodka : 3 Nocello over ice).
