Sipsmith London Dry Gin VJOP is a 57.7% ABV (115.4 proof) London dry gin in a 750mL bottle — VJOP stands for "Very Junipery Over Proof," and it earns the name with double the juniper of the standard Sipsmith, introduced three ways during distillation at the brand's Chiswick, London copper-pot distillery, available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

  • ABV: 57.7% (115.4 proof)
  • Size: 750mL
  • Age: unaged (NAS gin)
  • Production: triple-juniper process — juniper macerated 3 days, added during distillation, and vapor-infused through the Carter Head basket
  • Origin: Sipsmith Distillery, Chiswick/Hammersmith, London, UK — Master Distiller Jared Brown
  • Heritage: founded 2009, the first copper-pot gin distillery in London in roughly 200 years

A Symphony in "J" Major

Sipsmith revived small-batch copper-pot gin distilling in London in 2009, and VJOP is the distillery's love letter to its signature botanical. It starts from the same 10-botanical London Dry recipe, then doubles the juniper and layers it in three passes: a three-day weekend steep, more juniper added during the run, and a final vapor infusion through juniper in the Carter Head basket. Master Distiller Jared Brown's rule is that raising the flavor has to be matched by raising the ABV to carry it — hence the 57.7% bottling. The result is a navy-strength-style gin built for juniper obsessives. Browse the full Sipsmith range, or compare it against the classic Sipsmith London Dry Gin to taste what double juniper does to the same recipe.

Tasting Notes

Juniper everywhere — piney, resinous, and bright — layered over the London Dry backbone of coriander, citrus peel, and angelica. The higher proof carries the botanicals without heat, finishing long, dry, and intensely juniper-forward.

How to Enjoy

Stands up to tonic like few gins can — the 57.7% ABV means it won't wash out in a tall G&T. Also superb in a stirred martini or a Negroni, where the extra juniper cuts through vermouth and Campari.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does VJOP mean?
"Very Junipery Over Proof" — Sipsmith's name for this expression, which doubles the juniper of their standard London Dry and bottles it at 57.7% ABV.

Is VJOP the same recipe as Sipsmith London Dry?
Same 10-botanical base, but with double the juniper added three ways: macerated, distilled, and vapor-infused.

Is it a navy strength gin?
At 57.7% ABV it's in navy-strength territory, though Sipsmith markets it as VJOP rather than using the navy label.

How is it different from the standard Sipsmith?
Twice the juniper, three juniper contact methods instead of one, and 57.7% ABV vs 41.6% — it's a bigger, more juniper-dominant gin.

For the juniper-obsessed: order Sipsmith London Dry Gin VJOP online from Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA.
