Rosebank 30 Year Old Scotch Whisky Release 1
Rosebank 30 Year Old Scotch Whisky Release 1 is the first global release from the revived Lowland distillery under Ian Macleod Distillers: a 97.2-proof (48.6% ABV), 750mL 1990-vintage single malt, triple-distilled at Rosebank in Camelon, Falkirk, and matured in 62% refill sherry butts and 38% refill bourbon hogsheads. Distilled shortly before the distillery's 1993 closure and bottled in 2020, non chill-filtered, it bridges three decades of silence — only 4,350 bottles worldwide, presented in a premium gift box. Thirty Years of Silence
Rosebank closed in 1993, and for nearly three decades its triple-distilled Lowland spirit existed only in cask — one of Scotland's few worm-tub, triple-distilled malts, locked in time. Ian Macleod bought the silent distillery and its remaining stock in 2017, and Release 1 is the first fruit: 1990 spirit, sherry-butt depth over bourbon-hogshead lift, bottled at a full 48.6%. For Scotch whisky collectors, this is the top of the modern Rosebank releases — the bridge between the closed distillery's legend and its revival.
Tasting Notes
Soft and creamy on the nose: caramel wafer, gooseberry, white grape, almonds, vanilla, honey, lemon and nutmeg. The palate is delicate and crisp — light syrup, chamomile, pear and delicate tropical fruitiness with pleasing oak spice. The finish is soft but long: candied violets, orange and faint mint.
How to Enjoy
Neat, always — thirty years and 48.6% deserve nothing between you and the glass. A Glencairn, a quiet room, time. Pair with shortbread, aged Comté, or nothing at all.
