Herradura Legend Anejo Tequila is Casa Herradura's barrel-craft showcase — 40% ABV (80 proof), 750mL, 100% Blue Weber agave grown and distilled at the hacienda in Amatitan, Jalisco, naturally fermented and double distilled in small batches, then aged twelve to fourteen months in new American white oak barrels that are heavily charred and cut with deep grooves inside to multiply the wood's contact with the spirit. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

  • Origin: Casa Herradura, Amatitan, Jalisco, Mexico

The Barrel Is the Recipe

Most anejo is defined by how long it sleeps. Legend is defined by where. Casa Herradura — a working hacienda in Amatitan that has made tequila since 1870 and still fires its own cooperage — takes new American white oak barrels, chars them hard, and cuts deep grooves into the staves so the resting tequila touches far more wood, and far more char, than a standard cask allows. The brand describes the result as twelve to fourteen months of intensified extraction: the colour deepens, the toasted-agave core picks up charred oak, vanilla and honey, and the texture turns unmistakably rich. It is a cooper's argument in a glass. Set it beside the house's classic bottlings in our anejo tequila selection, browse the tequila range, or see the hacienda on the Herradura vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Toasted agave and charred oak, with vanilla and honey (brand notes). Palate: Rich and mouth-coating — oak and caramel, stone fruit and a flicker of black pepper over cooked agave. Finish: Long and warm, the char and spice settling slowly.

How to Enjoy

Neat, with time — the grooved-barrel extraction is the whole point and dilution hides it. A single large cube is as far as you should go. For a cocktail, an Anejo Old Fashioned lets the charred-oak depth stand in for bourbon's.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is different about Herradura Legend's barrels? They are new American white oak, heavily charred and cut with deep grooves inside the staves — the grooves multiply the surface of wood and char touching the tequila across its fourteen-month rest, intensifying colour and oak flavour.

How long is Herradura Legend aged? Twelve to fourteen months on Herradura's own product page — past the one-year anejo minimum, in the grooved, heavily charred new oak described above.

Where is Herradura made? At Casa Herradura in Amatitan, Jalisco — a hacienda distillery operating since 1870, using estate Blue Weber agave, natural fermentation and small-batch double distillation.
