It is aged in American oak barrels and finished in a French Cognac barrel — a long rest far beyond the three-year extra añejo minimum, and the deepest-aged expression in the Califino range. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

A San Diego Family's Highland Tequila, Aged the Slow Way

Califino began with the Luna family of San Diego, who had been bringing unlabeled tequila back from the Arandas Highlands since the 1970s before deciding to bottle it under their own name. The Extra Anejo is the crown of the range: highland agave given an exceptionally long rest in American oak, then finished in French Cognac wood that deepens the caramel and adds a light chocolate edge. Each expression in the range wears a different hand-tied rope at the neck, a Califino signature. Browse more aged expressions in our tequila collection, compare the wider spirits shelf, or see the brand on the Califino vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Toasted barrel and sweet caramel. Palate: Layers of oak and caramel with a light hint of chocolate over the cooked-agave core. Finish: Warm and full-bodied, the oak and caramel carrying long.

How to Enjoy

Neat in a snifter or flute after dinner — long aging asks for slow sipping, not mixing. A single large cube is the most it needs.
