Espanita Anejo Tequila is an 80-proof (40% ABV), 750mL 100% blue agave anejo from the female-founded Espanita brand. High-elevation Blue Weber agave from the Jalisco Highlands is stone-oven cooked up to 72 hours, roller-mill crushed, fermented 5–7 days with proprietary yeast, and double-distilled in small batches in copper-lined alembic pot stills — only the "Corazon" heart cut is kept — then aged up to 18 months in toasted American oak (ex-bourbon) casks. Order online from Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Slow Agave, Patient Oak

Espanita was founded by Marina Wilson as a female-led challenger in a crowded field, and the Artesano Anejo is its slow-food argument: agave cooked up to three full days in traditional stone ovens, a near-week of fermentation, and a heart-cut-only double distillation before the spirit ever sees oak. Up to eighteen months in toasted American oak gives it the caramel and vanilla of an anejo without burying the agave. Among tequilas at this price, few show this much process on the label — and the 93 points from The Tasting Panel noticed.

Tasting Notes

Cooked agave and honey on the nose with toasted oak and vanilla. The palate is round and balanced — caramel, dried fruit and baking spice over a core of sweet agave — finishing long and warm with a flicker of oak tannin.

How to Enjoy

Neat or on a large cube to appreciate the oak integration. It makes a luxurious Añejo Old Fashioned or a top-shelf Cadillac-style margarita where the agave still speaks.
