The Malt Whiskey That Rebuilt Colorado Distilling
Stranahan's began with a barn fire: in 1998 volunteer firefighter Jess Graber met Flying Dog Brewery founder George Stranahan while fighting a fire on Stranahan's Woody Creek property, and a shared love of whiskey turned into a distillery, founded in 2004 and first bottled in 2006. It became Colorado's first legal whiskey distillery since Prohibition and an early pioneer of the American single malt category. Tasting Notes
Per the producer's notes: a burnt amber colour; a nose of caramel-butterscotch and vanilla with maple syrup and leather; a palate of cinnamon-butter, vanilla and chocolate over warm caramel and spiced pear, with a creamy melted-brown-sugar texture; and a finish of light fruit and strong oak, rich tobacco and aged leather.
