Strange Magic from the Tequila Valley

The name translates as "strange magic," and the method is the old Tequila Valley way: agave cooked in brick ovens, crushed by roller mill, fermented in stainless steel with deep well water and distilled twice before the long oak rest that the extra anejo class demands — three years at minimum. Bottlings from NOM 1581 come out of the town of Tequila itself, in the Los Valles lowlands where the category was born. Find the house on the Magia Extraña vendor page, or compare it across our tequila and spirits collections.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fruity with medium oak and light cooked agave; tasters also find tobacco, leather and caramel. Palate: Sweet and fruity with citrus, cooked agave and orange peel. Finish: Long, with medium oak and vanilla.

How to Enjoy

Neat, in a glass that gives the oak and fruit room — this is a slow sipper in the extra anejo mould. A few drops of water open the citrus and caramel if the barrel feels forward.
