Dulce Amargura Anejo Tequila is a 100% blue Weber agave añejo aged 24 months in American and French oak, bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 1-liter handmade, hand-painted ceramic decanter — and it is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA. Twice the añejo minimum aging, from estate agave slow-cooked in stone and brick ovens at Tequila Tres Mujeres (NOM 1466) in El Arenal, Jalisco.

Sweet Bitterness, Painted by Hand

"Dulce Amargura" means "sweet bitterness" — the house's poetic name for the agave spirit. The brand was founded by a family with generations of agave cultivation on a 340-hectare ranch outside Guadalajara, in the Amatitán region, and is said to hold one of the area's most important underground cellars. Every decanter is handmade and hand-painted, so no two bottles are exactly alike — it is as much folk art as it is tequila. Two years of oak give it unusual depth for an añejo: cooked agave layered with dark chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla and maple. Tasting Notes

The nose opens with cooked agave, coffee, dark chocolate, burnt vanilla, maple, caramel, preserved cherry and crystallized orange. The palate is rich — cooked agave layered with dark chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla, maple and sweet preserved fruit — and the finish is long and warming, with caramel, coffee, oak, dark chocolate and citrus peel.

How to Enjoy

Neat in a snifter or copita, at room temperature, to catch the full 24-month oak development. This is a contemplative pour — save it for after dinner. Keep the hand-painted decanter on the shelf long after the tequila is gone.
