Amrut Triparva Indian Single Malt Whisky is a triple-distilled single malt at 50% ABV (100 proof), 700mL, matured exclusively in ex-bourbon oak and limited to 5,400 bottles worldwide. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
Amrut — from the Sanskrit amrita, "nectar of the gods" — put Indian single malt on the world map from its distillery in Bangalore, where tropical heat accelerates maturation and pulls extraordinary fruit out of the casks. Triparva (from the Hindi for "in three parts") was, on its 2020 release, the first triple-distilled single malt whisky ever produced in India or anywhere in Asia. That third distillation, driven by head distiller Ashok Chokalingam, strips out heavier oils and sulphur notes, leaving a lighter, cleaner, more fruit-forward spirit. One myth to retire: despite the name, Triparva is not aged in three woods — it rests entirely in ex-bourbon casks; the "three" is the triple distillation.
Unpeated and vividly tropical, Triparva pours like a fruit market in a glass: salted caramel and coconut-vanilla custard over peach, melon, pineapple, and banana on the nose; a palate of fruit-cocktail syrup, mango, papaya, creamy citrus, vanilla custard, butterscotch, and honey; and a long, mouth-filling finish of honey, gentle spice, and earthy oak. What does "Triparva" mean? It comes from a Hindi phrase meaning "in three parts," honouring the whisky's triple distillation — not three cask types; Triparva matures solely in ex-bourbon oak.
Is Amrut Triparva peated? No. Triparva is unpeated, made from unpeated Indian six-row barley and triple distilled for a light, fruit-driven style.
Why does it taste so fruity? Two reasons: the third distillation removes heavier compounds for a cleaner, fruitier spirit, and Bangalore's tropical climate speeds up cask interaction, concentrating orchard and tropical fruit flavours.
