Scorpion Mezcal Añejo Espadín 7 Year is extra añejo taken to the extreme — a 42% ABV (84 proof) mezcal in a 750mL bottle, rested a full seven years in French oak barrels under 200 liters. Made from 100% Agave Espadín in San Agustín de las Juntas, Oaxaca: steam-autoclave cooking, shredding mill, natural-yeast fermentation in open stainless vats, then double distillation — first in stainless steel, refined in copper pot stills. Bottled by hand as a limited single-barrel Special Reserve. Available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Seven Years in French Oak

Most añejo mezcal sees a year or two in wood; the Scorpion 7 Year line — led by founder Douglas French with Maestras Mezcaleras Elsa Arguelles Sanchez and Erika Aquino Aguilar — rests a full seven. The small French oak barrels work the spirit hard: vanilla, toasted nuts, and sweet oak layered over espadín's earthy agave core, bottled by hand one barrel at a time. These 7-year expressions grew out of an Old Town Tequila barrel-pick collaboration, and they drink like it — hand-selected, limited, deliberate. Tasting Notes

Per the official sell sheet: vanilla, clotted cream, and toasted hazelnuts; pear and ripe apple giving way to caramel, toffee, figs, and raisins; earthy agave and baking spices under sweet oak, toasted almonds, smoke, and citrus zest. Medium-dark amber.

How to Enjoy

Neat, in a copita or a Glencairn — seven years in French oak deserves an unhurried pour. This is a special-occasion mezcal, not a mixer.
