The cane is grown on the estate's own volcanic soils, distilled, aged and bottled entirely on the property under the AOC Martinique appellation. The estate's history is inseparable from the volcano: founded in 1651, destroyed in the 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée, rebuilt by Victor Depaz with production resuming in 1917. That volcanic terroir and the tropical aging climate give the XO its depth — among aged rums, agricole XOs drink nothing like molasses rum: more grassy freshness up front, more spice and dried fruit underneath. At 45% ABV this is a sipping rhum that also holds its shape in a Ti' Punch.
Tasting notes
Nose: spice, chocolate, rose and licorice, then vanilla, prunes and sweet oak; orange and dried fruits. Palate: round and soft — vanilla, wood, brown sugar, sweet spices, salted caramel. Finish: long — spices and wood, licorice, vanilla, red cherries.
