Foursquare Rum Distillery Epilogue
57% ABV (114 proof) | 750mL | 19 years old | Exceptional Cask Selection Mark XXXI — "Epilogue" — Foursquare Epilogue is the end of an era: the 31st and final release of Richard Seale's Exceptional Cask Selection series, the landmark Barbados rum line that began in 2008. Distilled, blended, matured and bottled entirely at Foursquare Rum Distillery in St. Philip, Barbados — 19 years in ex-bourbon American oak casks, a blend of pot-still and column-still rum, no sugar, no colouring, no chill filtration. One of ~1,300 bottles — available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA.
Since 2008 the Exceptional Cask Selection has been the benchmark for premium rum: full disclosure of cask, age and still, zero additives, bottled at natural strength. Epilogue closes the series with what the importer calls "an incredibly integrated overall profile" — 19 years of tropical aging in ex-bourbon casks under Richard Seale's direction, the fourth generation of R.L. Seale & Co. This is the bottle rum collectors have been waiting eighteen years to complete their sets with.
Tasting notes
Importer (Skurnik) notes: rich and complex with an incredibly integrated profile. Aroma of grapefruit and caramelized orange giving way to toffee, nougat, butterscotch and brown butter, with rich leather, tobacco, berries and tropical fruits. Palate incredibly well integrated and "extremely 'mellow' for its 114 proof bottling," with a rich, unctuous mouthfeel.
