Camarena, Uncut
Pasote — named for epazote, the wild herb that grows among the agave fields — arrived in 2016 with a simple creed: great tequila needs nothing but great agave, rainwater and time. The Still Strength blanco is the purist's expression of it: the same estate agave, stone ovens and copper pot stills as the standard blanco, simply bottled without dilution so the agave's green intensity arrives at full volume. Drinkhacker gave the still-strength release a B+, noting how the extra punch "helps distinguish it from (and elevate it above) Pasote's standard blanco." Browse Pasote, explore blanco tequilas, or compare with El Cristiano Silver for another additive-free Highland blanco at classic proof.
Tasting Notes
Aggressively vegetative — bell pepper, green bean, jalapeno-like herbal intensity, lemon zest and lemon curd, sweet plantains, burnt sugar and a touch of coconut cream and white pepper on the palate. The finish burns clean with roasted agave and lingering heat; a slight touch of anise at the very end.
How to Enjoy
Sip neat in small pours — at 110 proof a splash of water or a single cube opens the citrus and herbal layers without killing the intensity. Cocktails: a still-strength blanco makes a margarita with real backbone; dilute to taste.
