Napanook Napa Velley Red Blend 2019
Napanook 2019 is the second wine of Dominus Estate — Christian Moueix's Napa Valley flagship — a 14.5% ABV Bordeaux-style red blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc from the estate's Napanook Vineyard. Aged in 40% new French oak, the 2019 earned 96 points from James Suckling and 94 from Vinous for its rich, generous layers of black cherry, plum, mocha, and incense — pedigree Napa at a fraction of the grand vin's price. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

The Dominus Second Wine
Christian Moueix — of Château Pétrus fame — founded Dominus Estate in Napa Valley, and Napanook is its second wine: fruit from the same estate vineyard that doesn't make the flagship cut, vinified with the same exacting standards. That makes it one of Napa's great values — James Suckling called the 2019 "a fabulous effort" that punches above its weight. Tasting Notes
Deep purple-black. The nose is exuberantly fruity — ripe black cherries brushed with tobacco, sage, and bay leaf, plus dark chocolate and licorice. Medium to full-bodied and silky, with blackberry compote, crushed currants, pencil shavings, and mocha on a lingering finish.
How to Enjoy
Decant for an hour — aeration makes a real difference with the 2019. Serve at 60–65°F alongside a grilled ribeye or braised short ribs; it will also reward 5–8 more years in the cellar.
