Casa Magdalena Ron Blanco Rum
Casa Magdalena Ron Blanco is a true estate rum from Guatemala — cane grown, harvested, and distilled by one family, near the volcanoes Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. Bottled at 83 proof (41.5% ABV) in a 750mL bottle, it's a white rum with unusual depth: it rests about six months in American whiskey barrels before being lightly filtered.
The rum is a collaboration between House Spirits Distillery of Portland, Oregon and Ingenio Magdalena, S.A., the Leal family's Guatemalan sugar mill. Molasses is column-distilled in Guatemala at the Magdalena Distillery to specifications agreed by both partners, then shipped to the US — a cane-to-bottle partnership born from the friendship between House Spirits CEO Tom Mooney and Luis Fernando Leal, who runs Ingenio Magdalena.
Tasting notes
Don't expect a neutral white rum. The brief barrel rest adds soft vanilla and a whisper of oak over a core of tropical cane, banana leaf, and warm spice — filtered for clarity but not for character. It drinks like a blanco with a memory of the barrel.
