Glenfiddich Cumulative Time 40 Year Old is a 44.6% ABV, 700mL Speyside single malt from the Glenfiddich Time Re:Imagined collection — a 40-year-old whisky built by remnant vatting, where a portion of each previous batch is carried forward and married with the new casks, so every release contains liquid layers of all the batches before it. Matured in American and European oak hogsheads and ex-sherry butts, it is presented in a bespoke crystal decanter inside a hand-finished sculptural jesmonite case. Serious collectors can order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Forty Years, Layered in Every Pour

Time Re:Imagined is Glenfiddich's three-bottle meditation on time: the 30 Year Old is called Suspended Time, the moment the malt master stops maturation; the 50 Year Old is Simultaneous Time; and the 40 Year Old is Cumulative Time — flavor stacked year after year, batch after batch, until the whisky itself becomes a record of every release that came before it. Brian Kinsman's team ages it in decades-old American and European oak butts and hogsheads, then marbles it through the marrying tun in the remnant-vatting process the distillery pioneered for this expression. The packaging is geological metamorphosis in jesmonite — stone-like strata for a whisky whose whole idea is strata of time. Tasting Notes

The nose is silky and layered — deep dried fruit and fruitcake, dates and raisins, stewed apples, dark chocolate and roasted coffee, wood smoke and polished leather. The palate unfolds in waves: fruitcake and black cherries over dried oak, sultanas and apple pie, bitter chocolate and a whisper of aromatic peat. The finish is long, dry and intricate, lingering with cocoa and seasoned oak.

How to Enjoy

Neat, in the finest tulip glass you own — this is a contemplative dram for a milestone, not a mixer. A single drop of water opens the dried-fruit layers further. Keep the jesmonite case; it is part of the piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is remnant vatting?
Instead of starting each 40 Year Old release from scratch, Glenfiddich holds back a portion of the previous batch in the marrying tun and blends it with the newly selected old casks — so every bottling carries forward the flavor of all its predecessors, literally "cumulative" time.

How is Cumulative Time different from Suspended Time?
Both are in the Time Re:Imagined collection: Cumulative Time is the 40 Year Old built by remnant vatting; Suspended Time is the 30 Year Old, named for the moment the malt master decides the whisky is ready and maturation is "suspended."

Is it really 700mL and not 750mL?
Yes — the official release is 70cl (700mL), confirmed by Glenfiddich's own specs and every major retailer and whisky database listing.
