Eden Mill The Art of St. Andrews Scotch Whisky 2023
Eden Mill The Art of St. Andrews Scotch Whisky 2023 is the 2023 annual release in Eden Mill's limited-edition series pairing Head Distiller Scott Ferguson's whisky with a local artist — this year, Scottish illustrator Jill Calder, whose bespoke packaging celebrates the local flora, fauna, Eden Estuary coastline, and the new distillery building. The whisky inside is a lightly peated Lowland single malt, 46.5% ABV (93 proof), matured in bourbon, Oloroso sherry, and Pedro Ximénez casks, then finished in premium ex–Grande Champagne Cognac casks. Natural colour, non-chill filtered, 700mL. It's available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Art on the Outside, Smoke on the Inside
The Art of St Andrews series is Eden Mill's annual collaboration between distillery and artist, and the 2023 edition's liquid is a departure from house style: lightly peated with Aberdeenshire peat (more floral and grassy than island peat), which Ferguson likens to "smoked shortbread." The bourbon/Oloroso/PX maturation then takes a Cognac-cask finish — a rare wood for Scotch — layering candied grape and apricot over the gentle smoke. The IWSC judges' note: "delicate floral sweetness intertwines with smoky notes and subtle spices on the nose. A hint of fruit and pastry, followed by a nuanced finish hinting at cask influence." Tasting Notes
The launch announcement describes "gentle peat smoke with sweet, candied hints of grape and apricot" on the nose; a palate of smoke and sweet juicy fruit into floral, earthy peat with a lively biscuity undertone; and a finish of sweet fruit, light earthy peat, dry oaky spice, and subtle char.
How to Enjoy
Pour it neat first — the peat-to-Cognac arc deserves full attention. A few drops of water open orchard and stone-fruit notes, per the brand's guidance.
