Casa Dragones Double Barrel Blend Anejo Tequila is a 40% ABV, 750mL anejo made from 100% Blue Agave in Mexico. Rather than resting in a single cask type, it blends two separately aged anejos — one matured in new French oak and one in new American oak, both in custom-made new barrels — into a small-batch sipping tequila. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Two Oaks, Blended — Not Finished

Casa Dragones was founded in 2009 in San Miguel de Allende by Bertha Gonzalez Nieves — the first woman certified as a Maestra Tequilera — and named for the Dragones cavalry of San Miguel de Allende, tied to the start of Mexico's independence movement. The Barrel Blend, launched in 2020 as the house's first anejo, takes its character from the marriage of two oak programs: French oak for structure and spice, American oak for rounder sweetness, each ageing its own lot of tequila before the two are blended. Explore more aged tequila on our tequila shelf, browse the wider spirits range, or visit the Casa Dragones vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Colour and body: Light caramel with bright hues and pronounced legs. Nose: Fresh floral notes with pear, fig and almond. Palate: Macadamia, nutmeg and blackberry. Finish: Long and round, with cacao and spicy black pepper.

How to Enjoy

The house serve is neat, or over a single small ice cube so the oak and agave notes open gradually. It is positioned as an after-dinner sipper; a spirit-forward, Old Fashioned-style serve also suits its weight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Casa Dragones Anejo aged in bourbon barrels? No. The producer specifies new French oak and new American oak casks made for this tequila — not ex-bourbon barrels.

What does "Double Barrel Blend" mean here? Two lots of anejo are aged separately — one in French oak, one in American oak — and then blended together. It is a blend of two finished anejos, not one tequila moved from barrel to barrel.

How is this different from Casa Dragones Joven? Joven blends unaged silver tequila with extra-aged tequila and is clear; this Barrel Blend is a true oak-aged anejo with a light caramel colour from its time in new oak.
