Paul John Edited is a 92-proof (46% ABV), 750mL lightly-peated Indian single malt from John Distilleries in Goa — non-chill-filtered whisky from Indian six-row barley, with a whisper of imported Islay and Aberdeen peat folded into the ex-bourbon maturation. Distilled in copper pot stills on India's tropical coast, it matures at roughly twice the pace of a Scottish cellar. Add a bottle to your cart and order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Peat, With an Indian Accent

Edited is Paul John's answer to the peated whisky conversation — the Scottish import (peat from Islay and Aberdeen) arrives in Goa and gets a tropical rewrite. A relatively young whisky by the calendar, it tastes older than its years: Goa's heat drives wood interaction hard, and the light peat smoke settles into honey and dark chocolate rather than the medicinal punch of a young Islay. It's the bottle that converts peat-curious drinkers who find Scotch smoke too aggressive. See the whole lineup in our Paul John collection and browse more world whisky expressions.

Tasting Notes

Bright and honeyed on the nose — malted barley, dark chocolate and mint with a faint wisp of peat smoke curling at the edges. The palate is sweet and spicy: honey, cocoa, a little cinnamon and clove, with the peat arriving as background texture rather than the main event. The finish is warming and gently smoky, lingering with chocolate and spice.

How to Enjoy

Neat or with a few drops of water to separate the honey from the smoke. It also plays well in a Rob Roy — the light peat gives the classic extra dimension. Pair with dark chocolate or grilled lamb.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Paul John Edited very smoky?
No — it's lightly peated. Only a fraction of the spirit sees peat (imported Scottish peat, ~20-25 ppm), so the smoke is a seasoning, not the dish.

Why does it taste older than it is?
Goa's tropical climate roughly doubles the pace of maturation versus Scotland — 4-5 years in Goa extracts wood character comparable to about 15 years in a cool Scottish warehouse.

What is six-row barley?
Paul John uses Indian six-row malted barley rather than the two-row variety common in Scotland; it has higher protein content, which builds more character and a distinctly rich mouthfeel.
