Uruapan Charanda Cana Morada Blanco Single Agricola Rum is a rare expression of Mexico's protected spirit — an unaged agricole rum distilled from purple sugarcane (cana morada) at 98 proof (49% ABV) — and it is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Charanda is Mexico's answer to Martinique agricole and Brazilian cachaça: a spirit with a protected denomination of origin, made only in the highlands of Michoacán around Uruapan, in the red volcanic soil of the Cerro de la Charanda. Unlike Uruapan's blue-bottle Blanco (a 50/50 blend of cane-juice and molasses spirit), the Single Agricola is 100% fresh sugarcane juice — the rare purple cane of Michoacán — pressed, fermented and double-distilled on a copper pot still by the Pacheco family at Casa Tarasco, then rested in steel and bottled unaged at 49% ABV.

Tasting notes (retailer copy): fresh tropical fruit, green herbs and a subtle mineral edge on the nose; vibrant and clean on the palate, full of cane terroir — grass, lime, minerals and white pepper — with a crisp, complex finish.

Why buy the Cana Morada? Because single-agricola Charanda is one of the hardest styles to find in the U.S., and the purple-cane variant is rarer still — a connoisseur's bottle for lovers of clairin, Paranubes and unaged agricole. Explore the rum collection, the Uruapan brand collection, and all spirits.

Serving note: sip neat in a copita to feel the full mineral funk, or pour it into a Ti' Punch or daiquiri where that 98 proof and cane character cut through beautifully.

What is the ABV? 98 proof (49% ABV), 750mL — unaged.

What is Charanda? A protected-origin cane spirit from Michoacán, Mexico — made only around Uruapan, much like cognac or tequila.

What makes the Cana Morada different? It is distilled from rare purple sugarcane, 100% cane juice with no molasses — the purest expression of Charanda terroir.

Who makes it? The Pacheco family at Casa Tarasco, making Charanda since 1907.
