Meletti Limoncello Liqueur

The Story
Ditta Silvio Meletti has made liqueurs in Ascoli Piceno, in Italy's Le Marche region on the Adriatic coast, since 1870 - five generations of the same family, working from Silvio Meletti's original recipes and his bain-marie still, a slow, gentle distillation he developed to protect delicate aromatics. Most ingredients still come from local Le Marche producers who grow exclusively for the house.
For its limoncello the family reaches south to Sorrento, whose thick-skinned, intensely fragrant lemons are the gold standard. The fresh peels - where all the aromatic oils live - are macerated in spirit for three months before the liqueur is blended and sweetened, an old family recipe that keeps the lemon flavor vivid rather than candied.
Tasting Notes
Fresh Sorrento lemon peel from the first sniff: vibrant, zesty and natural, with a full, sweet palate of lemon oil and zest and a clean citrus finish that never turns syrupy or artificial.
How to Enjoy
The Italian rule: serve it freezer-cold, straight from the freezer in a chilled small glass, after dinner. It is equally at home in a lemon spritz, a limoncello margarita, or drizzled over lemon sorbet. For another Marche classic after dinner, pour the Meletti Anisette.
Frequently Asked Questions
How should limoncello be stored and served?
Keep the bottle in the freezer and serve it ice-cold in a chilled glass - the cold sharpens the lemon and balances the sweetness.
What lemons does Meletti use?
Fresh Sorrento lemon peel, macerated in spirit for about three months.
Is it very sweet?
It is a classic sweet limoncello, but the natural lemon oil and zest keep it bright and fresh rather than cloying.
