Matchbook Distilling Double Dutch Rye Whiskey
Matchbook Distilling Double Dutch Rye Whiskey is one of American craft distilling's most original blends: cherrywood-smoked single malt rye whiskey married with cherry eau de vie — one part eau de vie to two and a half parts single malt — and finished in an ex-porter stout, ex-sherry cask. Distilled in Greenport, New York, from 100% New York-grown fruit and grain, and bottled at 47% ABV in a 750mL bottle. Its label says it plainly: spirits distilled from rye and cherry. Find it among our rye whiskey collection.

Two Spirits, One Bottle
Double Dutch was inspired by the affinity between grain and fruit spirits. The rye side is Danko rye grown by Thor Oechsner, malted and smoked with cherrywood by Valley Malt, then milled, fermented, double pot distilled and aged more than two years in a Kelvin Cooperage cask at Matchbook. The cherry side is an eau de vie distilled in a single pot-column run from Bittner-Singer Orchard cherries — fermented two weeks with champagne yeast, never sweetened — then rested three years in glass demijohns before blending. The blend finishes in a cask that previously held porter stout and sherry. Matchbook built the whole production around esters, the fruity, floral compounds created at every step from fruit to fermentation to barrel, so the two spirits intertwine rather than sit side by side. It is unlike anything else in our American whiskey range.
Tasting Notes
A big cherry bomb wrapped in rye spice and gentle cherrywood smoke — dark cherry, marzipan and baking spice over a robust, malty backbone, with the stout-and-sherry cask adding cocoa depth to a long, fruity finish.
How to Enjoy
Pour it over a big cube with an orange twist and a good cherry and it drinks like an Old Fashioned that has already been built for you; it also shines neat after dinner. The rye at its core is the same cherrywood-smoked single malt bottled on its own as the Metamodernity Single Malt Straight Rye Whiskey.
