Mainland Florida Ex Oloroso HAZMAT 8 Year Old Rum 2017
Mainland Florida Ex Oloroso HAZMAT 8 Year Old Rum 2017 is the most extreme bottle in Mainland's Finest Selections line: a Florida rum distilled in 2017 that spent its entire 8 years in a single Oloroso sherry cask, then was bottled uncut at 73% ABV — 146 proof. At that strength it crosses the 140-proof threshold the airlines call HAZMAT, hence the name. The single barrel produced just 172 bottles, sealed under red wax.

The Story
Most sherry-cask rums get a short finishing rest; this one lived in Oloroso wood from the day it was barreled, in Florida heat that pushes spirit deep into the cask. Mainland — the Los Angeles label preserving single barrels from American distilleries — bottled it exactly as it came out of the barrel, water never added. It joins the ex-bourbon Mainland 7 Year Old Florida Rum from the same state program and stands at the far end of our rum collection's proof range.
Tasting Notes
Full-term Oloroso maturation drives the profile: dried fig and raisin, toasted walnut, dark cocoa and orange peel, carried on a wave of heat that demands small sips and rewards patience. Water is not optional for most palates — add it by the spoonful and watch the sherry fruit bloom.
How to Enjoy
Treat it like a cask-strength whiskey: a small pour, a tulip glass, and water within reach. Collectors of extreme bottlings will find good company in our rare and top shelf shelves.
