Three Icons of the House, One Tasting Flight
Maison Hennessy has blended cognac in the Charente since 1765, and this set pours its three signature expressions in miniature. It opens with the Hennessy VS Cognac — the Very Special, a blend of some 40 eaux-de-vie matured in new oak barrels, bold and fragrant with toasted, fruity notes. Next, the Hennessy VSOP Privilege Cognac, first created in 1817 for the future King George IV of England: a harmonious, balanced assemblage that has defined the VSOP style for more than 200 years. The flight finishes with the Hennessy XO Cognac, the original X.O created by Maurice Hennessy in 1870 — deep, powerful and spicy, blended from eaux-de-vie aged at least ten years and some for far longer.
Tasting Notes
V.S — toasted oak, ripe fruit and a rich, exuberant palate. V.S.O.P — smooth and mellow, with soft spice, vanilla and dried fruit in balance. X.O — the darkest and most intense of the three: candied fruit, cocoa, warm spice and a long, full finish. Tasted in order, the set shows exactly how longer aging trades youthful fruit for depth and spice.
