Piedra: The Stone, Bottled
"Piedra" is Spanish for stone — the two-ton volcanic tahona wheel that crushes the cooked agave for this tequila, fibres and all, the slow way almost no one still works. Piedra is one of very few tequilas produced only by that method, and Patrón's Gran Patrón flagship: the tahona spirit rests four years in French Limousin and new American oak before bottling in a bottle inspired by the tahona stone itself, presented in a box that converts into a display case, under Master Distiller David Rodríguez García. Explore the house on the Patrón vendor page, or browse our tequila collection.
Tasting Notes
Per the brand's current page: a deep mahogany colour; aromas of toasted coconut, sweet potato and dried apple with a hint of toasted French oak; headline flavours of vanilla, caramel, nutmeg and apple; and a subtle earthiness with a velvety texture from the tahona process.
How to Enjoy
Sip it neat at room temperature in a stemmed glass — four years of French and American oak over tahona spirit is a contemplative pour, not a shot. More extra añejo is in our tequila collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the tahona process?
The oldest tequila method: a two-ton volcanic stone wheel rolls over cooked agave to crush it, fibres included. The fibres ferment with the spirit, building texture and earthiness. Piedra is made only this way.
How long is Gran Patrón Piedra aged?
Four years, in a combination of French Limousin oak and new American oak barrels, per Patrón's current product page.
What does "Piedra" mean?
"Stone" in Spanish — a direct reference to the tahona stone; the bottle's design is inspired by it.
