Aged Rum, Finished Like a Manhattan
Don Q is Puerto Rico's best-selling rum, made by the Serrallés family in Ponce for six generations. For this special edition, Master Blender Jaiker Soto rested the aged blend in casks from Mancino's aged sweet vermouth — a finish the company described at launch as the first of its kind for rum, borrowing the vermouth's botanical aromatics and giving the rum its Manhattan-like character. Tasting Notes
Per Destilería Serrallés' release notes: dark amber shading to light gold; chocolate, vanilla and honey on the aroma with sweetness from the vermouth barrels; cherry and raisins from the vermouth-soaked wood against the blend's honey, dark chocolate and vanilla.
How to Enjoy
The producer recommends it neat or on the rocks; its cherry-and-botanical finish also makes it a natural base for a rum Manhattan riff. More cask-finished rums are in our rum collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a vermouth cask finish?
After its main ageing, the rum rests briefly in barrels that previously held aged sweet vermouth — here, Mancino Vermouth Vecchio — picking up the vermouth's botanical and dried-fruit character.
How old is the rum?
The blend's rums are aged 5 to 8 years in American white oak before the 4-to-6-week vermouth cask finish; the bottle carries no single age statement.
Does it taste like vermouth?
It stays a rum first — honey, chocolate and vanilla — with the vermouth casks adding cherry, raisin and botanical notes the producer compares to a Manhattan.
